Laser Vision Correction: The Safest, Most Reliable Forms Of Eye Surgery

What you see is NOT what you get! I went to a local Lasik clinic in Toronto for a free consult for laser eye surgery that had splashy ads of low cost surgeries; I did NOT leave with that price. Up-sell, my prescription and a cost of having my choice of new technology or not did not settle well. What surgeon would seriously offer a lower end surgery?

Needless to say, I went to another clinic that was more transparent with their prices. I did not feel comfortable have laser vision correction with a clinic that misled me before even getting into the clinic. Laser eye surgery ads and promises are not going to suck me in. I want a clinic that is committed to every patient and is transparent in their dealings from the get go. I highly recommend going to a clinic that is both upfront with their pricing and offers nothing but the BEST!

Take time with your laser vision correction decision and make sure to meet your surgeon BEFORE the surgery. This was a deal breaker for me. I want to know whose hands I am placing my eyes in and want to make sure that the surgeon is experienced. I did not want to see a resume; I wanted to talk to my surgeon.

I ended up going to a very experienced surgeon and had super results!

Laser Eye Surgery: Lasik vs. Lasek

The differences between Lasik vs Lasek can sometimes be confusing to figure out which is a better procedure. To me it comes down to safety. So, which IS the safest procedure? I went to a few of the local clinics offering Lasik vs Lasek. It seemed as though both had their pros and cons...

With Lasik, the procedure heal time was about 1-2 days. It seemed quick and was presented from all clinics as safe and effective with the convenience of being back to work the next day. I did some digging and found that it had some draw backs. There is a cut, either by blade or laser that creates the flap in the cornea. This essentially is disrupting the integrity of the cornea and has risks associated to it. The more I read into the risks, the more I quickly stepped away from Lasik.

On to Lasek... The first thing that struck me was that the flap that concerned me was no longer an issue. Lasek surgery is cut free. There is no flap that is being cut into the cornea. When I read about the risks that cutting into the cornea creates, I knew this procedure wasn’t for me. The surgeon works on the surface of the eye which leaves the integrity of the cornea intact. Heal time is a little more, about 4-7 days but I would definitely prefer a longer heal time with a procedure that is safer! Needless to say, I have found my clinic and have decided to proceed with the Lasek surgery.
